How Singapore taxi fares work

Every metered taxi charges a flag-down fare, then ticks up by distance and waiting time. Surcharges stack on top. The rates below are standardised across operators, with small differences by cab type.

Good to know: booking through an app shows one upfront price with surcharges already baked in. A street hail runs on the raw meter with no booking fee.

Common questions

How much is a taxi from Changi Airport to the city?

Expect the metered fare plus an airport surcharge of $3 to $8 depending on the day and time, so a typical trip to the central area lands around $22 to $40. Late nights add the 50% midnight surcharge on top of the meter.

What is the flag-down fare for a taxi in Singapore?

Most standard 4-seater taxis start at $4.60 for the first kilometre. Electric and 6-seater cabs start around $4.80, and premium or limousine cabs higher again.

Is Grab cheaper than a street taxi?

It depends on the time. Apps show an upfront price that already includes surcharges, while a street taxi runs on the meter with no booking fee. During peak hours a metered street taxi is often cheaper, off-peak the apps are competitive.

When do taxi surcharges apply?

The peak-hour surcharge of 25% applies on weekday mornings from 6am to 9:29am and every day from 5pm to 11:59pm. The midnight surcharge of 50% applies nightly from 12am to 5:59am.
